I was 18 when I first stepped onto a yoga mat. It wasn’t some grand spiritual awakening—my therapist simply suggested it as a way to cope with the pressure I was under while studying Political Science and History at McGill University in Montreal. I was overwhelmed and searching for something—anything—that could help me breathe again. Little did I know that this small act would reshape the entire course of my life.
Let’s fast forward to 2020. The world had turned upside-down. COVID-19 hit, provincial borders were closing, and I had to leave Montreal to return to my family home in Mississauga, Ontario. Like many, I faced rejection after rejection while applying for jobs. The only place hiring was a local grocery store. Something about that moment cracked me open. I took it as a sign to stop waiting for permission and start building something of my own.
At 22 years old, I opened Mukti Studio, a yoga space in Etobicoke that would become my home for the next three years. It was my baby, my classroom, my sanctuary. I learned how to run a small business on instinct and grit, but more importantly, I deepened my relationship with yoga—not just as a student but as a teacher. During this time, I completed my 200-hour Hatha certification and immersed myself in ongoing studies: Ashtanga, Chair Yoga, Kundalini, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Yin. I wanted to understand this practice from every angle, so I could meet people wherever they were.
But running a yoga studio, took its toll. After three beautiful but exhausting years, I realized I was burnt out. I still loved the practice, but I had lost touch with myself. On the Fall Equinox of 2024—September 22—I closed Mukti Studio. It was one of the hardest and most liberating decisions I've made.
Since then, I’ve returned to my personal practice with new reverence. Slower. Deeper. Truer. Now, through JoshandYoga, I’m sharing what I’ve gathered along the way. Not from a place of perfection—but from lived experience. I believe yoga is a tool for remembering who we are. I’m here to hold space for that remembering.

I have 3 years full time experience in the Health and Wellness and 8 years of asana practice. I have been collecting my experiences and would like to share them to hopefully bring about a bit of change in our understanding of Yoga. While asana is the first step into meeting our body, the practice of Yoga is a lifestyle
